FPV flight
INAV and Fixed wing RC models in FPV
One of my hobbies that led me to formulaFPV was my hobby of flying, in particular in FPV (First Person View)
I have 5 planes that I have flown over time each with their own pros and cons:
AXN clouds – I started with this and loved the relaxing flight characteristics and how slow you can fly it, it just feels like you are floating in mid air there like magic, however it was quite large and cumbersome, as it was my first plane suffered a lot of crashes and I found that it was made form EPO which is not that strong, the long fuselage was a weak point!
Sonicmodell HD Wing – fast, flew like it was on rails, especially with a stabiliser, fragile EPO – as I found after some heavy crashes
Bonsai – first use of INAV – fun, built form EPP so tougher, much lighter, only a tiny payload allowed, short range.
S800 – a fast wing, really fast, alarmingly fast once I converted it to 4S! Built from EPP, excellent range, flight time of about 12 minutes, unfortunately easy to stall, high stall speed (means fast, dangerous landings), government beginning to bring in restrictions around weight, over 250g and it must be registered, which is a fee paying service. More importantly I begun to realise that the bigger and heaver a plane is, the more damage it can cause (after witnessing my crashes and other peoples crashes)
1st Nano Goblin – excellent all rounder, bang on 250g (so no need to register), long range, run time 20 – 30 minutes (easy). Slow and fast, doesn’t stall, glides well and small enough to bungee onto my rucksack and take it out on my bike! – one problem – I suffered a catastrophic mid air disarm on the second flight some distance out, I never saw the plane again, even after days and days of scouring farm land and contacting land owners
2nd Nano Goblin – same as above, but upgraded to a higher version of INAV claiming to reduce the risk of mid air disarm, and I decided to secure the battery (as I think the battery popped out of the first one because I got absolutely zero trace of an audible bleep nor video transmission (it transmits its GPS location))
